Here are 4 things to do every day that can help you live a healthier life!

1.  Drink more water.  Our bodies need water to function well.   The amount of water each of us needs is dependent on our gender, age, activity level, climate, diet and health concerns.  To achieve this goal, have a bottle of water with you at all times and drink it throughout the day.

2.  Crowd out the intake of unhealthy foods.   Resolutions around not consuming certain foods often are not practical.  Focus instead on mindful eating.   Consume foods which nourish your body.   Instead of focusing on foods you should not have, change your focus to adding whole foods which nourish your body.   Strive to eat a rainbow of foods every day by including whole foods that represent the colors in a rainbow .   Overtime, making small changes to your diet will leave little room for unhealthy foods.

3.  Get up and Move.   Being sedentary is not great for the waistline or your overall health.  Take a break from screens – TV, computers or smart phones.  Step outside for a short brisk walk.  Take a group exercise class.  Make time for a short home exercise routine.  Not only does regular activity strengthen your muscles and improve heart and lung function, but it can also reduce your risk of disease, stimulate the growth of new brain cells, and even add years to your life.  Studies show just 30 minutes of physical activity every other day is all you need to reap big benefits.

4.  Practicing positive thinking every day.  When your state of mind is generally optimistic, you are better able to handle everyday stress in a more constructive way.  That ability may contribute to the widely observed health benefits of positive thinking.

If you tend to have a negative outlook on life – seeing the glass half empty, do not expect to become an optimist overnight.  With practice, eventually your self-talk will contain less self-criticism and more self-acceptance.  You may also become less critical of the world around you.

Start your positive thinking journey!  Keep a journal by your bed and every evening, reflect on the day and write down 3 positive things that happened to you that day.  For some this can be challenging at first, but over time you will become more aware of the positive things in your life and less focused on the negative.
